Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez has admitted to De Telegraaf he was gutted that his potential deadline day move to Chelsea did not come to fruition last summer.
The Mexico international was touted as a late option for the Blues to bring in, as they realised late in the window they may be short in midfield options for the rest of the campaign.
A frantic window ended in equal levels of chaos at Stamford Bridge, with them still looking to make a number of additions in the final hours of the window.

They eventually got a deal over the line to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, a signing which has very clearly not gone to plan.
They also brought in Denis Zakaria on loan, and since he made his debut there has been plenty of excitement about his abilities.
The Swiss international came in after a deal for Alvarez wasn’t possible, which left him distraught.
Alvarez distraught at no Chelsea transfer
He said: “I mourned for one day and then showed I am a strong person, of course, the disappointment remained for a while.
“Of course the disappointment lasted for a while, but I believe that everything happens for a reason. Maybe it wasn’t the right time yet.
“My time will come, one hundred percent. That is in God’s and my own hands. And I’m working hard to be ready for a new challenge

“I came to Ajax to learn, to enjoy and to reach the next level. Of course my focus is one hundred percent on Ajax at the moment.
“But if something beautiful comes along next summer that is good for Ajax and for me, then I want to seize that opportunity.”
With the signing of Enzo Fernandez, it is unlikely Chelsea return for the 25-year-old to sign him when the season comes to an end.
