Journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed on ‘The Done Deal Show’ that Chelsea are lining up a lot of players they know they won’t sign.

The Blues have been linked to more players than anyone this month, as Todd Boehly oversees a second revolution in the squad in six months.

They have signed the likes of Joao Felix and Mykhailo Mudryk this month, with attack the position they have been most concerned about strengthening.

This is off the back of what has been a very poor season so far in front of goal.

If reports are to be believed, it is likely that we have not seen the end of the club’s business this month.

Jacobs has claimed that the Blues shortlisting a lot of players could have negative effects for them going forwards.

Chelsea using interesting transfer tactics

He said: “Chelsea are really intriguing because from what I understand we know they are being really ambitious but they are also lining up a lot of maybes.

“That can disrupt the market, it can lead to certain sellers waiting, to see if they get any leverage from suitors like Chelsea and on top of that it can create success of long-term damage from the club taking that tactic like Chelsea.

“The success comes in that you can line up a name, but the damage is that if you don’t follow through for that name the next time you try this tactic and the time after, you get a bit of a reputation for leading on targets and agents.”

They may have already started to feel the negative effects of some of those methods.

So far this month they have been unable to secure the services of a central midfielder, despite well-known pursuits of Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez.

The prices quoted for both players have been far higher than Chelsea have been prepared to pay, and it’s difficult to say that has not been a result of their prior activity.
