‘I was flabbergasted’… Journalist left in shock after transfer rumour he’s heard about Chelsea

Chelsea could make a surprise signing before the January transfer window closes.

Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran is a name that Chelsea have been discussing, according to journalist Nathan Gissing.

And now The Telegraph’s Matt Law, who was shocked to hear the Duran rumours, has told London Is Blue that the club are yet to actually deny interest in the 20-year-old.

The links are a bit surprising given that Chelsea already have a couple of young centre-forwards in their squad, while Duran does not have too much Premier League experience.

Signing him this month would be quite a gamble.

Chelsea not denying Jhon Duran interest

Chelsea have not ruled out a move for Duran yet and it has surprised Law.

On the Colombian, he said: “Look, all I know on this is that it was put out there via someone on social media and it just hasn’t been denied. It hasn’t been denied at all, which I always find interesting because Chelsea did very quickly deny Viktor Gyokeres at Sporting Lisbon this week.

“And yet there’s been no comment, no denial on, I think the wording was discussions around Jhon Duran at Villa. I was flabbergasted when I saw it because I’ve seen a lot of him and if you think Nicolas Jackson is raw, times it by five for Jhon Duran.”

Chelsea really do look to be interested in Jhon Duran

As Law mentioned, Chelsea have not briefed that they are not interested in Duran the same way they did when a report emerged about a bid for Gyokeres.

Considering that, it looks like Duran is a player who the club are at least considering.

Again, though, Duran just seems like so much of a gamble. However, if Armando Broja leaves Stamford Bridge this month, perhaps it is one the Blues may actually need to take.

They are going to be really light up front if the Albania international departs. Nicolas Jackson is Mauricio Pochettino‘s first-choice striker and Christopher Nkunku can cover him there, but the Frenchman has been unable to stay fit this season, hence why Broja would probably need to be replaced.
