Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries has suggested that he’s got no interest in joining Chelsea in the New Year.

Denzel Dumfries, 27, is a key player for Serie A giants Inter Milan in the right wing-back position.

There’s been recent speculation which suggests Mauricio Pochettino’s side is interested in signing the Netherlands international. Calciomercatoweb claimed earlier this week that Chelsea are thinking about recruiting Dumfries after coming close to getting him in the summer.

However, the fast defender sounds pretty settled in Milan if you hear his latest comments.

Dumfries wants to stay with Inter

Inter’s attack-minded full-back has admitted that he’s currently discussing a contract extension with his club.

It’s pretty concrete that the Dutchman is settled in Milan and isn’t thinking of a January exit.

“I’m discussing my new contract at Inter. We are negotiating and I’d love to stay,” Dumfries said, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano’s X account.

“I feel at home at Inter.”

Chelsea don’t need him

Of course, we rate Dumfries as a player. His game is perfectly suited to a wing-back position, with his pace and energy such a key weapon. He’s already scored two goals and made three assists in nine club appearances this season.

Fortunately, Chelsea are already blessed at right-back with both Reece James and Malo Gusto as excellent options. We’ve even seen Marc Cucurella play in that position recently to good effect, too.

Calciomercato reported last December that Inter valued Dumfries at around the €60million (£52million) mark.

In our view, it would be needless spending for Chelsea to go after him. Thankfully, it sound like he’s going nowhere.

Chelsea’s main focus needs to be on getting their club captain into a position where he can stay injury free. James has proven he’s one of the world’s best full-backs when he’s fit and firing. Alternatively, we’ve really enjoyed the early signs from Gusto during his debut campaign at Stamford Bridge.
