‘I’ll take it’: Chelsea loanee says he would jump at the chance to exit Stamford Bridge permanently

Chelsea loanee Baba Rahman has admitted he wants to join Championship club Reading on a permanent basis.

Rahman, 28, is currently out on loan with Reading for a second consecutive campaign.

The Ghanaian defender has spent the majority of his Chelsea career out on various loan spells, making only 23 first-team Blues appearances in seven years on the club’s books.

It definitely looks like carving out a career at Stamford Bridge is beyond him, especially as his left-back position is currently filled by top-class stars Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella in the current Chelsea squad.

Rahman wants to join Reading

Reading’s on-loan full-back has openly admitted he would sign for them on a permanent deal if a transfer was on the cards.

“Coming back to Reading was like coming back home. I know the lads and the management, so it was like coming home,” Rahman said.

“If the possibility comes up [to sign permanently] then why not, I’ll take it, but it’s the two clubs who have to deal. I am feeling at home here, I love it.”

Rahman didn’t complete a return to Reading until the closing stages of the summer window, so is settling into life back at the Championship side.

The attack-minded left-back will now try to play an important role for a team sat third in the Championship, hoping to be in the mix for promotion this season.

His Chelsea contract doesn’t expire until 2024, so logic says the London club need to cash in on him next summer when he returns from this current loan.

It was reported a couple of months ago that it’s ‘unlikely’ Rahman will get back into favour at Chelsea.
