Chelsea defender Ian Maatsen is likely to be the subject of interest in the January transfer window.
That is according to journalist Dean Jones.
Chelsea recently extended Ian Maatsen’s contract by a year, but Jones has told GiveMeSport that he still thinks clubs will enquire about signing him when the market opens again.

Maatsen may give serious thought to leaving Stamford Bridge in January, as he has barely played this season. The 21-year-old is yet to start a game in the Premier League.
Ian Maatsen still attainable
Jones does not think Maatsen will be off the market in the new year just because his contract has been extended.
Speaking to GiveMeSport, he said: “News on Ian Maatsen extending his deal at Chelsea does not necessarily mean that he is not attainable, and I think we will still see clubs coming to check on the situation in January.”
Ian Maatsen’s contract situation
Maatsen’s contract was set to expire at the end of the season, but the Evening Standard reported last week that Chelsea have activated a one-year option in his deal.
Another report from the Evening Standard in September claimed that Burnley had agreed a loan deal with Chelsea for Maatsen that would have seen the Clarets sign him for £31.5m at a later date.
With that in mind, then, if the left-back does decide to leave Mauricio Pochettino’s side in January, perhaps the Premier League strugglers could be an option for him.

He spent last season there on loan and actually helped Vincent Kompany’s men to win promotion back to the top flight.
Ultimately, given that Maatsen has not signed a new long-term contract at Stamford Bridge, you simply cannot rule out him leaving in the next transfer window. And Burnley look like they could be an option for the Dutch youngster.
European champions Manchester City have been linked with him as well, so maybe the Etihad could also be another potential destination. Maatsen’s future is certainly something to keep an eye on heading into the new year.
