Mauricio Pochettino has hinted that he is still planning to continue working with Marc Cucurella for the upcoming season.

He told journalist Alex Crook that he has been told nothing about a potential sale or loan before the end of the summer transfer window.

Cucurella was handed his first start of the campaign last night as the Blues entered the League Cup in the second round against AFC Wimbledon.

While the Blues may have expected a comfortable afternoon at Stamford Bridge, it was anything but that for Pochettino’s side.

They scraped past their lower league opposition 2-1, with many doing themselves no favours when it comes to breaking into the manager’s long-term plans.

One of those who failed the test was the Spaniard. The boss was seen telling Ben Chilwell to warm up in the first half after a sloppy pass.

Pochettino still has Cucurella in his plans

There have been plenty of reports in recent days that the 25-year-old is set to be on the move to Manchester United on loan.

However, Pochettino has claimed at this moment he is still working with Cucurella in his plans.

He said: “I know nothing, maybe you know better than me. All the players that are involved everyday at the training ground with us, training with us, are in our plans then things happen.

“It is the decision of the club and player, player and club, if something happens in the next few days we will communicate to you.”

With Chilwell and Ian Maatsen as part of the squad who can both play the left-back role, it looks unlikely that Cucurella has an immediate future at Stamford Bridge.
