Chelsea will now resume negotiations to sign Elye Wahi from Montpellier after agreeing a deal with Rennes for Lesley Ugochukwu.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano.

So, what is the latest on Chelsea and Elye Wahi after the Blues signed Lesley Ugochukwu? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well – according to Sky Sports – Chelsea have agreed a £23.1m deal with Rennes for Ugochukwu, as the Blues seemingly begin to move on from Moises Caicedo.

The France Under-21 international, who operates as a central midfielder, has already undergone a medical in the United Kingdom, and is expected to be announced on Sunday.

Now – according to Romano – Chelsea will keep pushing to sign Wahi.

The reliable Italian journalist claims Chelsea “know” there are two other clubs trying to sign the Montpellier No.21 as well, so there is an urgency amongst those at Stamford Bridge to get a deal done quickly.

Once Chelsea strike an agreement with Montpellier, Romano adds that Chelsea will send Wahi on loan to Strasbourg – where Ugochukwu could also be sent.

Chelsea have already seen one bid rejected for Wahi, although the Blues appear to be the outright favourites to secure the striker’s signature.

A story from L’Equipe earlier this week claimed that Chelsea saw a £24m bid rejected for the 20-year-old.

However, Wahi himself is said to be very keen on a move to Chelsea, and wants the transfer wrapped up as soon as possible.

An update from Midi Libre added that Tottenham were preparing a bid of their own for the French prodigy amid doubts over the future of Harry Kane, so Spurs could be one of the two clubs Chelsea are wary of.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Chelsea push to seal a deal for Wahi.
