Chelsea signed a wave of players during the one year that Mauricio Pochettino was managing the club, and there have been some mixed results.
The likes of Moises Caicedo, Nicolas Jackson, and Cole Palmer were signed by the Blues during the summer window of 2023 when Mauricio Pochettino was in the dugout. If you fast-forward to now, they’re all thriving under the current Chelsea manager, Enzo Maresca.
However, not every single one of the Blues signings have found their best form at Stamford Bridge.

Jason Cundy fears Christopher Nkunku will leave Chelsea
TalkSPORT pundit and Chelsea fan Jason Cundy admits he’s worried that Christopher Nkunku could end up leaving the club.
“Nkunku, it feels as though his career at Chelsea hasn’t even started. I worry that will be him and he will eventually have to leave to go and get first-team minutes,” Cundy told talkSPORT.
Nkunku’s debut season with Chelsea last year was wrecked by injury, making only 14 appearances under Pochettino. As for his second campaign, it’s been up and down under Maresca’s guidance.
The French attacker has scored 12 goals in 26 matches across all competitions this season for the Blues, but that doesn’t quite tell the full story.
The bulk of Nkunku’s success in the last few months has been in the various cup competitions. As for his Premier League form, he’s only scored two top-flight goals, which is partly down to the fact he’s started two league games all season.
| Competition | Appearances (Starts) | Goals | Assists |
| Premier League | 17 (2) | 2 | 1 |
| Conference League | 5 (5) | 5 | 3 |
| Conference League qualifiers | 2 (2) | 2 | 0 |
| Carabao Cup | 2 (2) | 3 | 0 |
Maresca admits Nkunku’s Chelsea form has dipped since pre-season, but that’s because he’s largely using the versatile attacker in the striker position rather as a No 10. It’s an impossible task for the Frenchman to remove teammate Cole Palmer from the central playmaker role.
What will happen with Christopher Nkunku?
Chelsea forward Nkunku is linked with several clubs in the transfer rumour mill. For instance, there’s speculation involving him and potential suitors Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain.
At the age of 27, Nkunku is entering his prime years as a footballer and is too talented to be warming the bench most weekends.
Nkunku still wants to fight for his Chelsea career, so it would be great to see him force his way into the team. However, it’s a tall ask with Palmer blocking his path as the No 10, while Nicolas Jackson has cemented his spot as the first-choice striker.
He would start for most other teams in Europe based on his ability and goalscoring prowess, but he’s competing in a very competitive Chelsea squad.
