Chelsea forward Joao Felix is close to joining Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr in a surprise transfer.

It looked as though the 25-year-old would be returning to former side Benfica. In fact, The Chelsea Chronicle was told that Chelsea thought Felix would rejoin Benfica, possibly on a long-term loan deal.

However, Al-Nassr swooped in over the weekend and are now set to sign the Portuguese from the Club World Cup winners.

Felix, though, may not be planning to stay at the Saudi Arabian outfit for too long.

Chelsea outcast Joao Felix agrees two-year contract with Al-Nassr

On Sunday, the reliable Fabrizio Romano revealed that Felix had said “yes” to Al-Nassr’s proposal. The Italian journalist has now shared some details about the player’s contract.

According to one of Romano’s posts on X, Felix has agreed a two-year deal with Al-Nassr ahead of his move to the club.

It is a very short contract, especially for a 25-year-old. It suggests that Felix is not planning to spend the rest of his career in the Saudi Pro League, which is understandable.

The Portugal international is a talented attacker who is yet to reach his peak. He will want to play in a top European league again.

Had Benfica met Chelsea‘s demands, he would have secured a move to a good European division this summer. However, Benfica wanted Chelsea to sell Felix on their terms and were waiting for the Blues to soften their stance, a plan that has now backfired spectacularly.

Benfica were ready to roll out the red carpet for Joao Felix

Having once been on their books and being an extremely gifted player, Benfica were very keen on signing Felix during this transfer window.

It was reported that the No.10 shirt was even being saved for Felix. They have missed the opportunity to re-sign their former player, though.

That being said, with Felix only signing a two-year contract with Al-Nassr, Benfica could get another chance to bring the ex-Atletico Madrid star home in the future.
