Jorge Mendes already working to sell £64m World Cup star, Chelsea are real contenders to sign him - journalist

Chelsea are reportedly contenders to sign Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa next summer.

Costa, 23, is a talented young keeper in-between the sticks that is building quite a big reputation across Europe with Porto.

The shot-stopper helped his club qualify for the Champions League knockout rounds this season. Also, he’s the modern day goalkeeper with the way he can distribute from the back.

He’s gone into the World Cup tournament this winter as Portugal’s number one, but he’ll need to show some character to bounce back from a dodgy opening performance. The keeper showed a massive lapse in concentration to almost gift Inaki Williams a free goal, but he somehow got away with it as Portugal held out for a 3-2 win over Ghana.

Costa did show a big moment of weakness on his first taste of the World Cup stage. He’s still such an exciting young player, though.

Chelsea contenders to sign Diogo Costa

Spanish journalist Matteo Moretto has tweeted last night that Costa could potentially be one of the biggest sales of next summer.

Apparently, Chelsea and Manchester United are possible buyers that could try sign the 23-year-old player.

In addition, Matteo explains that Jorge Mendes is already working on a potential transfer.

Jorge Mendes is a well-known super agent that represents so many high-profile players, including Porto goalkeeper Costa. Incidentally, other clients include the likes of Bernardo Silva, Darwin Nunez and Joao Felix.

It”s previously been claimed by Fabrizio Romano that Costa has a €75million (£64million) release clause in place, so it’ll be interesting to see how much he goes for.

Chelsea’s goalkeeper position is hardly secure right now, so it’s no surprise to hear the club linked to top players in the specialist position.

90min claims that the Blues have recently offered Edouard Mendy to Tottenham. Meanwhile, Kepa Arrizabalaga has only recently retained Chelsea’s number one position after a really tough spell at Stamford Bridge.

It’s vital that Graham Potter feels secure and trusts a long-term main goalkeeper at the club.
