Chelsea’s Renato Veiga is reportedly about to join Italian giants Juventus on loan this month, and supporters of the Serie A club are stunned by one aspect of the deal.
Renato Veiga, 21, has been an important player in the Chelsea squad during his debut season in English football. The versatile youngster’s played 18 Blues games across all competitions this campaign, covering in several different positions because of his versatility.
However, the Portugal international is about to leave Stamford Bridge this window on a temporary basis.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Juventus have agreed to sign Veiga from Chelsea. Apparently, it’s a loan deal until June worth €5m (£4.2m) in loan fees, plus there’s no buy option clause. Also, the 21-year-old youngster is expected to play in his preferred position as a centre-back in Turin.

Juventus fans react to Renato Veiga transfer
It’s interesting to hear Juventus supporters respond to the Veiga transfer news with real confusion about the terms of the deal. In particular, they’re baffled that there’s no option or obligation for them to buy the Chelsea player at the end of the season.
Here are some Juventus fans on X reacting to the breaking transfer story:
One fan wrote: “Weird deal. At least have a buy option If you like the player, not an obligation but just a buy option.”
“So you’re telling me, we’re spending €5M on a player to play five months for us?” another posted.
One supporter claimed: “Desperate situations call for desperate – and expensive and short term – solutions.”
“We should’ve have option to buy. He has a lot of potential. He can have great rest of the season and we won’t be allow to buy him back,” another said.
Veiga has been pushing to leave Chelsea to play centre-half because he sees that as his preferred role. From that aspect, it looks like he’ll get his wish in the second half of the season with Juventus.
The Portuguese youngster has mainly covered at left-back or defensive midfield so far in his Blues career. It’s quite telling that the club recalled Trevoh Chalobah from his loan this month to play as a central defender rather than turn to Veiga as the solution.

Is this a good deal for Chelsea?
While there’s concerns about the hole Veiga leaves behind in the squad, the general feeling should be that this may be a very clever deal from Chelsea in January.
First of all, Veiga is kept happy by going to Juventus and hopefully playing as a centre-half for the rest of the season. Also, they’re set to receive a sizeable transfer fee, especially when you consider there’s no option to buy.
We’ve still got faith in Veiga’s potential and ability to be a big player for Chelsea in the future, so that’s not completely lost with a straight loan deal.
In terms of leaving a void in the squad, the most obvious one is the cover to Marc Cucurella at left-back. Chelsea youngster Ishe Samuels-Smith could be the solution.
