Bayer Leverkusen players joke about Kai Havertz’s potential Chelsea transfer, said the winger’s teammate Nadiem Amiri.

The 21-year-old is reportedly close to following his compatriot Timo Werner’s steps to Chelsea, with the latest report from the Telegraph claiming the Blues have begun talks with Leverkusen over a transfer fee.

But as things stand, Havertz is still a Bayer Leverkusen player.

Leverkusen are currently preparing for their Europa League tie against Rangers on August 6, having already returned to training last week (Sky Sports) after a brief break following the DFB Pokal final against Bayern Munich on July 4.

Interestingly, Havertz’s teammate Amiri said despite the widely spread rumours, the rest of Leverkusen players have not really put any pressure on him.

He told German outlet Sport1: “We don’t want to talk about it at all.”

“We are very relaxed in the dressing room, nobody would go there and speak to him and ask, ‘What are you doing now?’ The boy is concerned with that himself.”

Amiri also said that he just wishes Havertz to “make the right decision”, although he also said the rest of the team sometimes teased the Germany international about the potential Chelsea move.

“There are always a few jokes and a few sayings,” he added. “But we need Kai! We also have to leave his head alone.”

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has previously refused to speak about Havertz himself, although his smirk when answering the questions was a bit ‘suspicious’.

“I’m not talking about Kai Havertz he’s a player of another team I am looking at a game tomorrow that is so huge for this team,” Lampard told the media prior to the Liverpool game last week.

“The last thing I want to do is talk about a player from another team.”
