Chelsea are now on red alert after Liverpool saw a £40m bid for Romeo Lavia rejected by Southampton.
That is according to Sky Sports.
So, what is the latest on Chelsea target Romeo Lavia? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well – according to the Daily Mail – the Belgium international is Chelsea’s backup option if a deal for Moises Caicedo fails to materialise.
Now – however – the Blues could miss out on Lavia to Liverpool as the Reds begin the auction with a £40m bid, which is £10m short of Southampton’s asking price.
Having said that, Chelsea sound determined to stay involved despite their ongoing pursuit of Caicedo.
Earlier today, Sky Sports reported: “We understand Southampton have rejected a bid believed to be worth £40m from Liverpool. Southampton understood to be holding out for £50m.
“One source has told Sky Sports News that Chelsea are also interested and are keeping an eye on his situation. Lavia still has four years left on his Southampton contract.”

The £38,000-a-week man enjoyed a stunning debut campaign in England’s top-flight last season despite Southampton’s relegation to the Championship, making 29 appearances in the Premier League.
Chelsea could effectively swap Conor Gallagher with Romeo Lavia
Judging by the latest reports, it sounds as if Chelsea could be planning to swap Conor Gallagher with Lavia.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Blues have – like Southampton – also rejected a £40m bid, this time from West Ham as the Irons aim to replace Declan Rice with the Chelsea No.23 this summer.
However – according to ESPN – Chelsea want £50m for Gallagher.

Therefore, if West Ham do end up meeting Chelsea’s asking price for the England international, Mauricio Pochettino could choose to spend that money on Lavia, effectively swapping one midfielder for another at Stamford Bridge.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as we expect Chelsea to carry out plenty of business before deadline day.
