Journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed that Thomas Tuchel will meet with Billy Gilmour today to determine his future.

The 21-year-old has been widely linked with a move away from Chelsea this summer, spawning from when he was dropped from the first team’s pre-season tour of the United States.

He was later not handed a shirt number for the current season, with all signs pointing to an unsavoury exit from the club.

However, it emerged that he would be part of Chelsea’s travelling squad to Southampton on Tuesday night, although he did not feature in the club’s 2-1 defeat.

A return to the first team squad has seemingly not put an end to interest in his services, with Brighton leading the interest in signing the Scotland international.

Tuchel to meet Gilmour today

However, Jacobs has confirmed that a meeting will take place today between manager and player, because the Seagulls are only able to make it a permanent deal.

He said: “Thomas Tuchel will speak with Billy Gilmour later today before deciding whether to sanction a permanent move to Brighton. Chelsea are expecting an offer before the window shuts. Brighton can’t loan Gilmour because they already have Levi Colwill.

“Although Brighton are front runners, there are expected to be other straight-loan suitors. That’s why Tuchel’s input is going to be important before any final decision is made.”

It would be wise for the Blues search for a loan move for Gilmour this season, with him no doubt still having potential to make it at Stamford Bridge.

He was sent up the river in footballing terms last season with a loan move to Norwich City, who were never likely to put up much of a fight in surviving in the Premier League.

With links to the club signing Edson Alvarez today, it is unlikely this season would give the Scot many opportunities to prove his worth at Stamford Bridge.
