Chelsea are going to need to get down to business if they are to convince Lewis Hall to return to Stamford Bridge this summer.
Lewis Hall looks like another player that Chelsea let go too early, having gone on to become one of the best full-backs in England at Newcastle United.
What makes it even more frustrating is that he came through the academy.
His 2025/26 season saw him earn a nomination for the Premier League Young Player of the Season award, and he was unlucky to miss out on a place in the England squad.
But his performances have attracted the attention of Chelsea, who are interested in bringing Hall back to London ahead of Xabi Alonso’s arrival.

Lewis Hall wants to be a starter at Chelsea
In an interview with The United Stand, Ben Jacobs has provided an update on Lewis Hall’s situation, which is focused around Chelsea needing to prove themselves to the defender.
“But for now, all quiet between Chelsea and Lewis Hall. And if Chelsea were to enter that race, they would have to undo some of the exit due to the fact that Hall wasn’t happy in the buildup to leaving about his pathway at that football club.
“He felt that he deserved more opportunities. is it’s not to say it’s an irreparable situation or there’s any huge acrimony between Chelsea and Lewis Hall now but it is to say that you can’t pitch to Lewis Hall any club but particularly Chelsea and say come in and you’re competing against one or two if Hall leaves Newcastle he’ll want to know from that football club that he is definitively the starting left back.”

An easy decision for Chelsea to make
If Chelsea successfully re-sign Lewis Hall to replace the departed Marc Cucurella, they can absolutely guarantee him a starting spot. After Cucurella’s exit, Stamford Bridge is left with a vacancy at left-back, with just Jorrel Hato and potentially Malo Gusto being able to operate there.
However, the only thing would be the potential fee that the Blues have to pay for Hall, with some saying that a fee of £60 million may be required after letting him leave for £30 million.
