Chelsea are big fans of Celta Vigo playmaker Gabri Veiga.

That is according to journalist Graeme Bailey.

Speaking on ‘The Talking Transfers Podcast’, Bailey has explained that Chelsea really like Gabri Veiga as a transfer target.

He claims that there’s a good chance the 21-year-old midfielder does leave Spanish club Celta Vigo and come to the Premier League.

He’s been described as ‘spectacular’ by Spanish U21 coach Santi Denia [Marca], and has a very bright future ahead of him.

Transfer expert Bailey has explained there’s interest from the likes of Chelsea and Newcastle United in Veiga, who will cost less than £40million to sign.

The Spain Under-21 international’s future is certainly one to keep an eye on.

“Barcelona and Real Madrid like him (Veiga) but I don’t think they are going to be pushing on for him this season. So he is one to keep an eye on,” Bailey said.

“Chelsea like him a lot, Liverpool do. I think he’s one who if they came in he would be more of a project. Don’t see him going in there and starting for any of these Premier League teams. Maybe Newcastle, if they got him, he might be that number 10 – possibly.

“But the interest is there. It’s not an awful lot of money in Premier League terms, under £40million. So keep an eye on this one, there is a good chance he comes to the Premier League.”

90min claimed this week that Chelsea, along with several Premier League rivals, will be prepared to match and even pay more than Veiga’s £34million release clause to sign him. It is understood that the Blues, Liverpool, Manchester City and Newcastle United have all indicated they’ll go above and beyond for the 21-year-old.

There’s certainly a lack of midfield options right now when you look around the Blues squad, something which was not the case last season.

Chelsea have sold both Mateo Kovacic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek already this summer, while N’Golo Kante has left on a free transfer. Denis Zakaria’s season-long loan spell has expired, too.
