Liverpool may be interested in signing Chelsea’s Ian Maatsen.
That is according to a report from TEAMtalk.
They claim that Ian Maatsen, 21, is set to leave Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window.
It is understood that Liverpool want to add more quality in the left-back position and Chelsea’s young talent is an option for them.
The report mentions that Burnley are ‘extremely interested’ in re-signing Maatsen. The full-back enjoyed a fantastic season-long loan spell with them last year, but he doesn’t want to enter a Premier League relegation battle so that deal is rated as a ‘no go’.
In addition, Manchester City have kept tabs on Chelsea’s youngster. They even spoke to the player’s representatives back in July, too.

Chelsea to lose another talent
Maatsen is a very talented youngster who’s now chasing a transfer exit midway through the season.
Blues head coach Mauricio Pochettino has played him eight times so far this campaign, using him further up the pitch on the wings. He can’t get any minutes in his preferred left-back position, though.
It’s interesting to note that Maatsen’s the second Chelsea player linked with Premier League rivals Liverpool this week.
Well-respected journalist Simon Phillips reported via his Substack yesterday that Merseyside giants Liverpool are showing an interest in Gallagher. However, the 23-year-old Blues midfielder will soon be holding talks about a contract extension.
Can’t blame Ian Maatsen
We would love Maatsen to have a long-term future at Chelsea. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem realistic right now due to the tough competition in the squad, so a transfer exit makes sense for all parties.
The 21-year-old simply isn’t getting enough minutes with these bit-part roles off the bench.
With players returning from injuries in the squad, Maatsen’s only likely to slip further down the pecking order as well.
It looks like the Blues are stacked in the left-back spot with Marc Cucurella, Ben Chilwell and even Levi Colwill as options.
