Chelsea now look set to miss out on Romeo Lavia after the Southampton No.45 decided to join Liverpool instead.

That is according to Bobby Vincent of Football London.

So, what is the situation involving Chelsea target Romeo Lavia? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, Vincent explains how Chelsea have been in talks to sign the Belgium international since the start of June.

Now – however – Mauricio Pochettino may have to look elsewhere.

Vincent wrote: “The Saints midfielder wants to join the Reds and there is a confidence a deal will be complete.

“It looks like Chelsea will miss out on Lavia, which makes it even more imperative they find a way to sign Caicedo. At the moment, Brighton are not budging on their £100m valuation of the Ecuador international but talks continue to try and find a solution.”

An update from Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri claimed that Chelsea had made an “ultimate approach” to sign the 19-year-old after hearing that Liverpool had intensified their pursuit with a £37m bid.

Southampton are keen to receive £50m for Lavia, and Liverpool – according to The Athletic – are about to return with an improved offer for the teenage sensation.

Romeo Lavia to Liverpool is far from ideal for Chelsea

While Chelsea excelled themselves when it came to selling deadwood, the Blues are struggling with incomings.

As mentioned by Vincent, talks with Brighton about Caicedo are proving to be difficult, and Chelsea are now about to miss out on Lavia to Liverpool, who the Daily Mail claimed was Pochettino’s backup option to the Ecuadorian.

According to Calcio Mercato, Chelsea have also been rejected by Paulo Dybala, and there is still no update on Romelu Lukaku as the Blues desperately try to offload the Belgian.

At this moment in time, the transfer window is not providing much joy for Chelsea fans – to say the least.
