‘Major issue’ is blocking Christopher Nkunku’s potential move from Chelsea to RB Leipzig

RB Leipzig are interested in re-signing Christopher Nkunku from Chelsea during this transfer window.

Leipzig sold Nkunku to Chelsea in 2023, but the forward is set to leave Stamford Bridge this summer after failing to nail down a spot in the Blues’ starting XI.

However, Leipzig bringing Nkunku back to the Red Bull Arena is proving to be a difficult task.

As well as Ole Werner’s side, Bayern Munich are also interested in the 27-year-old. Bayern recently made a loan offer for Nkunku, but it was turned down by Chelsea.

Christopher Nkunku’s wages a ‘major issue’ for RB Leipzig

Bayern’s interest is not the only thing that is complicating things for Leipzig right now in their bid to re-sign Nkunku. The Premier League star’s salary is also causing problems.

According to journalist Philipp Hinze, Nkunku’s wages are a “major issue” for the Bundesliga outfit, who have a new salary structure in place.

Even if Leipzig fail to sign Nkunku this summer, they could still end up doing some kind of business with Chelsea.

The Blues are, of course, trying to sign Xavi Simons from their German counterparts. If they can agree a fee, that deal should go through.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently revealed that Simons has spoken to his family about Chelsea, telling them that he only wants to join them.

Christopher Nkunku’s current wages at Chelsea

At Chelsea, Nkunku is on big money. In fact, the Frenchman is one of the highest-paid players in the dressing room.

It is thought that Nkunku earns almost £200,000 a week at Stamford Bridge, the kind of wages Leipzig probably cannot offer.

The France international needs to play, though, and that is not going to happen at Chelsea. His game time could decrease even further as well if the Blues manage to land Simons.

Nkunku has to join Leipzig or another club, even if he has to take a huge pay cut to secure a transfer.
