Manager is now trying to convince 21-year-old loan player to stay at club, Chelsea want to recall him

Chelsea want to end the loan of one of their players before sending him to another club this month.

David Datro Fofana is currently at Union Berlin and, according to Diario de Sevilla, Chelsea and Sevilla want his loan there to be cut short so that he can move to the Spanish side.

However, the same outlet claims that Union Berlin manager Nenad Bjelica does not want the striker to leave and is trying to convince him to remain in Germany.

Overall, his spell at the Bundesliga club has not gone well. He even refused to shake his former boss Urs Fischer’s hand after being substituted in a Champions League game.

Since then, though, Fischer has been replaced by Bjelica and Fofana has gone on to score his first Bundesliga goal.

Chelsea need to listen to David Datro Fofana

The most important thing here is that Chelsea listen to Fofana. If he is now happy at Union Berlin and does not want to leave the club, then there is no point cancelling his loan and sending him to Sevilla.

It is not quite clear if that is how the 21-year-old feels, though. Again, in general, things have not really worked out for him there.

As for Chelsea, they could probably do with having another striker in their squad.

Nicolas Jackson is at the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal, while Christopher Nkunku, who is capable of leading the line, has picked up another injury.

However, Fofana is unlikely to be the answer. What Mauricio Pochettino needs right now is a proven No.9, but those are obviously not easy to find on the market. If they were, with all of the wealth Chelsea possess, the Argentine would already have one. With such, the Blues’ season would probably look a lot different.
