Manchester United are trying to bring former Chelsea forward Timo Werner back to the Premier League.

That is according to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg.

The journalist has claimed on X that “he’s on the list” at United and that they have already made an enquiry about him.

Chelsea sold Timo Werner back to RB Leipzig last summer when Thomas Tuchel was still in charge at Stamford Bridge.

Werner had a difficult time at Chelsea, scoring just four league goals in his second and final season there, though he did manage to win the Champions League during his stint in west London.

Should Chelsea fans be worried about Timo Werner potentially joining Manchester United?

There is no guarantee that Werner will return to the Premier League and even if he does, we do not think Chelsea supporters need to worry too much about the German coming back to haunt them.

Again, the English top flight was a division Werner could not adapt to. While he scored goals for fun in the Bundesliga, that never translated over to the Premier League.

And since returning to German football, the 27-year-old has not rediscovered the clinical edge that made him such a dangerous forward during his first spell at Leipzig.

Last season, he failed to reach double figures in the Bundesliga and has since gone on to lose his place in Leipzig’s team.

We do not see Werner becoming another Kevin De Bruyne or Mohamed Salah. Then again, with how things have been going for the club lately, maybe Chelsea fans should not be too shocked if their former striker returns to England as a completely different player to what he was during his time at Stamford Bridge.

All things considered, though, Werner potentially coming back to England is probably not something Chelsea supporters need to lose sleep over.
