Manchester United are reportedly looking to bring a former Chelsea player back to the Premier League.

Andreas Christensen left Chelsea for Barcelona in 2022, but a return to England now looks like a possibility.

According to Sport, Manchester United, as well as Newcastle United, are interested in signing the central defender.

Christensen ended up joining Barcelona on a free transfer, and his whole contract situation at Stamford Bridge was something former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel was not happy about.

“We are not happy about it because I personally and club representatives we think that it’s best for him to stay,” the German was quoted as saying by TNT Sports.

Chelsea should enter the race for Andreas Christensen

Chelsea look to be in the market for a new centre-back. Thiago Silva’s contract expires at the end of the season and the Blues are now being linked with several centre-halves, including Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo.

If Chelsea really are determined to bring another central defender to Stamford Bridge, then surely making an attempt to re-sign Christensen is a no-brainer?

The 27-year-old knows the club and Premier League well and would bring experience to a squad lacking such.

Having that connection to Chelsea as well, you would fancy them to beat Manchester United and Newcastle to his signature if it becomes a three-way battle between the Premier League trio for Christensen’s signature.

Some Chelsea fans may be upset with the manner in which the Dane departed. He left on a free transfer at a time when the club were in turmoil. Perhaps that will not be forgotten.

But at the end of the day, Christensen is someone who could bring a lot to Mauricio Pochettino‘s squad. So if the Denmark international is available and the Argentine wants another centre-back in his ranks, then why not?
