Incoming Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has approved of attempts to try sign Sporting Lisbon’s Manuel Ugarte this summer, according to reports.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed on Twitter over the weekend that Pochettino has now signed a three-year deal to become Chelsea’s next permanent manager and will get straight to work this week.

Therefore, Blues fans will be intrigued to see the kind of signings that may take place during his reign in charge.

Chelsea are linked with several defensive midfielders ahead of the summer transfer window, including 22-year-old Sporting star Manuel Ugarte. The latest claims suggest that Pochettino likes the Uruguay international.

Romano has shared on Monday that Pochettino has given a big thumbs up regarding Chelsea’s transfer pursuit of Ugarte.

As it stands, the Blues are in ongoing talks for the all-action midfielder and are battling Paris Saint-Germain for his signature.

“Understand Manuel Ugarte has been approved as target also by Chelsea coach Mauricio Pochettino,” Romano wrote on Twitter.

“Chelsea are pushing in talks with club and player side, Jorge Mendes’ on it.

“PSG proposal, still valid on the table.

“No decision yet, but Chelsea will keep insisting.”

Ugarte, who’s been described as a “highly aggressive” player in a detailed scouting report from Breaking The Lines, could be a great fit for the Chelsea XI.

He’s a powerful defensive midfielder that would add steel to the Blues side and allow the likes of Enzo Fernandez to provide more of an attacking threat from the centre of the park.

We’ve heard rumours this month that Chelsea are in for Sporting’s talisman, and it now sounds like the player’s future could soon be decided.

Journalist Franco Fernandez said on Twitter last week the Ugarte was close to securing a move to Chelsea in a deal worth around €65million (£56million).

Let’s wait and see what happens in these next few days, though!
