Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino looks ready to turn to the transfer window after his side’s defeat to Everton.

Chelsea lost 2-0 to the Toffees at Goodison Park and have now dropped down to 12th in the Premier League table.

The club are in serious trouble, but Mauricio Pochettino hinted to BBC Match of the Day that they are going to sign players next month to improve the squad.

Chelsea have spent heavily in the last three transfer windows, but that does not look like it is going to stop them from getting out their wallet again.

Their clash against Everton was another game to forget, with Reece James once again succumbing to another injury.

Mauricio Pochettino hints at transfer activity in January

Following his side’s defeat to Everton, Pochettino told Match of the Day that Chelsea are going to try and improve their team in the next transfer window.

After the game, he said: “This was a game to play and to win. It’s a problem we need to check. We need to analyse the reality. We need to talk and to try to improve in the next transfer market.”

Do Chelsea need to sign players next month?

Despite spending £1bn since being taken over by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, yes, Chelsea somehow find themselves in a position where their squad is still not good enough.

What exactly do the Blues need, then? Well, the priority has to be a new centre-forward.

After a purple patch that saw him score four goals in two games against Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City, Nicolas Jackson has gone off the boil a bit.

Chelsea do not have a consistent No.9 in their squad. And until they do, they are probably going to have more games like today where they are going to struggle to find the back of the net.

Although he is not a natural centre-forward, there is always the chance of Christopher Nkunku coming back from injury and being that reliable goalscorer Pochettino is currently missing. That would be extremely helpful.
