‘Might have gone’: Injury may have stopped 24-year-old Chelsea man from getting sold this month – journalist

Journalist Simon Phillips has claimed on his Substack that Chelsea may have sold Christian Pulisic this month if he wasn’t sidelined.

The American picked up an injury early on against Manchester City in the Premier League, with him yet to be seen since.

Graham Potter’s comments suggest it will still be another few weeks until the 24-year-old is back in a position to compete for his place again, meaning he won’t be fit again before the end of January.

He has been frequently linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge, amid consecutive seasons now where he hasn’t been able to secure a regular starting role.

Phillips has now claimed that this transfer may have been as early as this month if he was fully fit.

He said: “Christian Pulisic could depart Chelsea in the summer, and if it weren’t for his injury, he might have gone this month.

“Pulisic is currently pondering his options ahead of a big decision in the summer, despite Graham Potter’s liking for the player.”

Potter’s admiration for the player is one thing, however the club’s business this January suggests things will be even more difficult for the US international when he returns to fitness.

The Blues have spent big money on the transfer of Mykhailo Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk, pipping Arsenal to the deal at the last minute.

He has already shown a lot of promise in just a 30-minute cameo against Liverpool at Anfield, suggesting he may be able to lock down the left-wing position for the rest of the season.

They have also signed Noni Madueke as an option for the right-hand-side, with him likely to learn from and eventually compete with Raheem Sterling for the place on the opposite side.
