Newcastle United are expected to turn their attention towards a Chelsea player once the Benjamin Sesko saga is over.

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle side have been heavily linked with RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, 22, in this summer transfer window.

Incidentally, the Blues were tipped with a move for the centre-forward earlier this summer. However, Chelsea ended their long-term interest in Sesko after signing Liam Delap in June.

Journalist Sacha Tavolieri reported via X on Friday that Newcastle have leapfrogged Manchester United in the race to sign Sesko from Leipzig.

Newcastle want Chelsea’s Axel Disasi

Sacha Tavolieri further reported via X on Friday that Newcastle will turn their attention to defensive recruits once the Sesko saga reaches a conclusion.

He explains that Newcastle have recently made contact about signing Chelsea defender Axel Disasi because he’s one of the names on their shortlist.

The Blues signed French centre-half Disasi for around £40m (Daily Mail) from Monaco two years ago. Now, Chelsea are asking for £30m to sell Disasi amid interest from Newcastle.

Back in the 2024 summer window, Newcastle registered interest in signing Disasi, who’s a commanding centre-back who can cover at right-back.

He spent the first half of last season as a squad option at Chelsea under Enzo Maresca, before a short-term loan at Aston Villa.

Chelsea don’t need Axel Disasi at the club

While Disasi possesses the physical traits to do well in the Premier League, he doesn’t suit the current Chelsea side. In contrast, we think the no-nonsense aggressive defender could actually suit Newcastle perfectly.

The Blues have ball-playing centre-backs such as Levi Colwill, Tosin Adarabioyo, Wesley Fofana, Trevoh Chalobah and Benoit Badiashile competing for two starting positions.

Chelsea’s sporting directors deserve immense credit for selling a lot of players this summer, and Disasi would be another smart sale if it happens.
