Chelsea still reportedly want to sign Sevilla defender Jules Kounde this summer.
According to well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, the Blues have no intention of giving up their chase to sign the 23-year-old.
This comes after Thursday’s development that Sevilla have agreed to sell 29-year-old centre-half Diego Carlos to Aston Villa this summer, so are already losing a key figure in their defence.
Romano explains this won’t stop Chelsea’s pursuit to sign centre-back partner Kounde, though, who manager Thomas Tuchel wants at Stamford Bridge. The French player is keen for a switch to the Premier League ahead of next season, too.
Chelsea still want Kounde
Sevilla will end up losing the spine of their defence this summer if Chelsea have their way.
Kounde, 23, is a ball-playing centre-back with so much quality.
He’s heavily linked with a switch to west London this summer, but there will have been a few nervous supporters when they read the Diego Carlos news yesterday.
Thankfully, it sounds like the Kounde transfer is still a possibility.
ESPN pundit Stewart Robson has claimed this week the Sevilla defender has all the right attributes to be a success next season in Tuchel’s XI.

Defensive record
Chelsea’s defence, particularly in the first half of the season, was the bedrock to the team’s success.
The new challenge is for the side to move forward without exit-bound Antonio Rudiger and be defensively sound next term.
Tuchel’s side conceded just 33 goals during the course of the 38-game league season, but individual errors started to creep in during the last few months.
