Chelsea were shocking in their 4-1 defeat against Liverpool at Anfield last night.
However, for Carlton Cole, there was at least one positive for Chelsea, Christopher Nkunku.
Nkunku came off the bench in the second half to score the Blues’ consolation goal, and Cole gave him some plaudits on talkSPORT after the game.
It was only the Frenchman’s second goal of the season, but he has been injured for most of it.
After watching how well he took his goal against Jurgen Klopp’s side, Chelsea fans will be wondering how different their campaign would have been had he stayed fit.
Christopher Nkunku one positive for Chelsea in Liverpool defeat
After watching Nkunku play against Liverpool, Cole is confident that the 26-year-old can lead the line for Mauricio Pochettino‘s team.
“One good thing for Chelsea and Chelsea fans is that Nkunku came on, scored,” the former West Ham United and Chelsea striker said. “You know what? With Nkunku, he can lead that attack.”

Should Christopher Nkunku start up front for the rest of the season?
Nkunku is not a natural centre-forward like Nicolas Jackson and Armando Broja, for example, but he can play as one and is easily the most clinical forward at Chelsea. You only have to look at his goal record to know that.
Back in the 2021/22 campaign, the France international scored an impressive 35 goals in 52 appearances for RB Leipzig.
It is why Chelsea paid £52m (BBC Sport) to acquire his signature from the German club.
Ultimately, using Nkunku as the main No.9 until the end of the season may not be the worst idea. It just depends on what Jackson’s form is like when he returns.
