Those at Chelsea think they are about to make a smart signing in the form of Brighton No.1 Robert Sanchez.
That is according to Fabrizio Romano.
So, what is the latest on Chelsea target Robert Sanchez? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well – according to the Daily Mail – the Spain international has already agreed to join Chelsea, after slipping behind Jason Steele in the pecking order under Roberto De Zerbi.
A number of staff members at Stamford Bridge – including Goalkeeping Coach Ben Roberts – know Sanchez very well having worked together at Brighton, and now, a reunion in west London looks likely.
However, Chelsea’s admiration for the 25-year-old has not just come from out of the blue.
Romano told Caught Offside’s The Debrief podcast that Chelsea have considered Sanchez as a sensible option throughout the summer, even when the Blues looked at Andre Onana, and a bid has now been made.
The reliable Italian journalist said: “Chelsea sent an official bid yesterday to Brighton for goalkeeper Robert Sanchez. Chelsea always had him on their list, they always considered him as a cheap and smart option, even when they also considered Andre Onana.”

Chelsea and Brighton still need to agree a fee for the Spaniard, although De Zerbi is unlikely to fight hard to keep him, especially after signing Bart Verbruggen from Anderlecht.
Robert Sanchez is a smart signing by Chelsea
While some Chelsea fans may feel quite underwhelmed about this news, it does make a lot of sense.
Chelsea staff members know Sanchez well – so they are well placed to make a solid judgement on him – while he also shouldn’t cost a lot given his situation at the Amex Stadium.

Mauricio Pochettino simply needs a glovesman to keep Kepa Arrizabalaga on his toes after Edouard Mendy moved to Al Ahli, and Sanchez – someone with 87 Premier League appearances to his name – possesses the experience to do that.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Chelsea and Brighton attempt to agree a fee for the goalkeeper.
