‘People within the club’ admire £42,000-a-week Chelsea man, but he could still be leaving

Trevor Chalobah could be leaving Chelsea this summer – but not because those at Stamford Bridge do not rate him.

That is according to Dean Jones.

So, what was said about Trevor Chalobah and Chelsea? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, Jones told Give Me Sport that “people within” Chelsea admire the £42,000-a-week man and still believe he can be a success at Stamford Bridge.

However, the journalist added that Chalobah is among those who could leave west London despite the opinions of those within Chelsea.

Jones said: “He would be one of the names that I’d have on a list of potential exits, for sure, but I think that there are definitely people within the club that still admire him and think he is capable of playing at this level.”

A story from The Athletic claimed that Chalobah wants to fight for his future at Chelsea and will only leave Stamford Bridge if he is forced out.

The 23-year-old made 18 starts in the 2022/23 Premier League campaign, and the Evening Standard believe Inter Milan are in regular contact with the Chelsea No.14’s representatives as they attempt to sign him.

Chalobah may have to leave Chelsea

We can understand why Jones has described Chalobah as someone who could leave Chelsea, as Mauricio Pochettino needs to make room in the centre-back department.

A claim from talkSPORT states that Levi Colwill is going to force a move away from Chelsea if Pochettino cannot guarantee him regular playing time.

The Argentine would presumably hate for that to happen, as The Times believe he is a huge fan of the England Under-21 international, and even wants Chelsea to tie him down to a new contract.

However, Pochettino already has the likes of Benoit Badiashile, Kalidou Koulibaly, Wesley Fofana, Thiago Silva and Chalobah, so the latter may have to be offloaded – in addition to others – to keep Colwill happy.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Inter Milan are expected to push for Chalobah after Saturday’s Champions League final.
