‘Phenomenal’ player is ‘very open’ to joining Chelsea even without Champions League football

Chelsea’s absence from the Champions League may not prevent them from signing one of their targets this summer.

Chelsea failed to qualify for the Champions League once again last season after finishing sixth in the Premier League.

In the end, their sixth-placed finish was not even enough to earn them a spot in the Europa League following Manchester United’s triumph in the FA Cup final.

Nevertheless, Chelsea and Enzo Maresca could still land one of the club’s targets this summer despite him wanting to play in Europe’s elite competition.

The Blues have been extremely busy in this transfer window, completing the signing of Filip Jorgensen on Tuesday. Chelsea were one of Jorgensen’s favourite teams growing up.

Victor Osimhen open to Chelsea move

Chelsea are working on a deal to sign Victor Osimhen from Napoli this summer. The 25-year-old is obviously a high-profile player and the Blues do not have Champions League football to offer him.

Even so, despite Osimhen wanting to compete in the tournament this season, it looks like he is not against the idea of moving to Stamford Bridge.

According to Sky Sports, while Osimhen would ideally like to play in the Champions League, the Nigerian is still “very open” to joining Maresca’s side.

Osimhen made six appearances in the competition last term, scoring two goals. Speaking to DAZN (via Football Italia) in the past, Italian manager Walter Mazzarri described Osimhen as “phenomenal”.

Victor Osimhen’s agent

Osimhen’s agent, Roberto Calenda, has not been too pleased with some of the talk surrounding his client.

There has been a lot of speculation about Napoli potentially swapping Osimhen for Romelu Lukaku, but Calenda dismissed it on X.

Of course, a swap deal involving both Osimhen and Lukaku would work well for both Napoli and Chelsea.

Napoli are dying to sign Lukaku, while Chelsea have been trying to offload the Belgian and sign a new striker themselves.

Ultimately, it is a deal that would make a lot of sense for both parties, but a lot obviously needs to happen for this one to go through.
