Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi is desperate for his club to sign Chelsea star Conor Gallagher this summer.

That is according to well-respected journalist Simon Phillips.

Conor Gallagher, who’s been with the England squad during the international break, is subject to transfer speculation in the summer window.

The box-to-box midfielder played 45 games last season during his debut season in the Blues first team, but he’s linked with a potential exit from Stamford Bridge.

Journalist Simon Phillips has explained on his Substack that Brighton head coach De Zerbi “really wants to sign” Gallagher and bring him to the Amex Stadium.

Apparently, the Seagulls boss has communicated that message to his people as well.

This comes after recent claims from 90min that Brighton are already in talks with Chelsea about the potential transfer to sign Gallagher.

Incidentally, The Daily Mail previously reported that Chelsea will ask for £40million to sell Gallagher this summer.

We feel very split when it comes to Gallagher’s future.

If someone is willing to pay close to the £40million mark this summer, Chelsea may be wise to cash in on Gallagher and make a very tidy profit on one of their academy graduates.

However, we can also get behind the idea of the energetic midfielder getting his chance next season to work with Mauricio Pochettino.

Gallagher couldn’t quite find any consistency last season in a Chelsea side that was all over the place, but he’s proven before how effective he can be as a goalscoring midfielder in the Premier League.

This one should really boil down to how much incoming boss Pochettino plans to use him.
