Mauricio Pochettino has now asked Chelsea to sign Gabri Veiga – with Todd Boehly pushing hard to get a deal finalised.
That is according to the Guardian.
The Blues face competition, but Chelsea – on a brighter note – won’t have to haggle over a fee to sign Gabri Veiga.
What’s the story?
Well, a story from 90min claimed that Chelsea have scouted the Celta Vigo No.24 this season.
Now, the Guardian believe Chelsea’s interest in Veiga – who Goal have compared to Mason Mount – is set to go up a gear.
Pochettino is said to be keen on the Spanish wonderkid after missing out on Manuel Ugarte, and Chelsea are boosted by the fact that he has a relatively modest release clause of €40m (£34m).

The Guardian add that Barcelona and Liverpool are also keen to buy Veiga, with the Reds likely to ramp up their interest once they complete the signing of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton.
Veiga enjoyed a memorable 2022/23 campaign, scoring 11 goals in 36 La Liga appearances including a double against Barcelona on the final day, which kept Celta Vigo in Spain’s top-flight.
Chelsea must be quick if they want Gabri Veiga
In our view, Chelsea need to wrap this deal up quickly.
As aforesaid, Liverpool will begin to step things up once they sign Mac Allister, and with that deal nearing completion, it won’t be long until Chelsea face a serious competitor for Veiga – one who can offer European football next season.
Furthermore, while the release clause means Chelsea don’t need to haggle with Celta Vigo, it also opens up the danger of a rival side simply paying the £34m fee and swiftly getting a deal done.
As aforesaid, Boehly is pushing hard to sign Veiga, so perhaps the American is already aware that time is of the essence here – be sure to keep an eye on the developing situation.
