Mauricio Pochettino is said to be putting pressure on Todd Boehly to wrap up a deal for Chelsea to sign Manuel Ugarte.
That is according to O Jogo in Portugal.
Now – after rumours that Todd Boehly was not prepared to offer more money – a deal for Manuel Ugarte could be on.
What’s the story?
Well, the Uruguay international is said to prefer a move to Chelsea over PSG, although he is stalling on a decision after learning that the Blues are offering half of the salary put on the table by the French giants.
That was said to be a €2m-a-year (£1.7m-a-year) offer from Boehly, worth around £33,000-a-week.
A story from another Portuguese news outlet in Record stated that Chelsea would not be increasing their salary offer.
Now – however – O Jogo believe Pochettino is demanding that Ugarte is signed as soon as possible, and the Argentine’s insistence on a deal seems to have led to a development.

The Portuguese news outlet believe Boehly is now willing to pay the 22-year-old an annual salary of €3m-a-year (£2.6m-a-year), which equates to wages in the region of £50,000-a-week.
Ugarte’s transfer fee is not an issue, with Chelsea happy to pay his £52m release clause, and Sporting CP are – like Pochettino – keen on a quick resolution as they want to focus on spending the money on new recruits of their own.
Ugarte surely feels wanted by Pochettino at Chelsea
While Ugarte may have initially been disappointed to hear that Boehly was offering him 50% of what PSG had put on the table, the Uruguayan is surely pleased by Pochettino’s determination to get him to west London.
This kind of effort from a manager can often go even further than money when it comes to convincing a player to join a new club.
PSG’s offer remains more lucrative than Chelsea’s, as it stands at €4m-a-year (£3.4m-a-year).
However, Ugarte – in our view at least – may now be prepared to accept €1m-a-year (£857,000-a-year) less, due to his desire to play in the Premier League.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as there are frequent developments in this chaotic transfer saga.
