Premier League club believe they have a ‘good chance’ of signing £200k-a-week Chelsea player

Chelsea’s defender has reportedly become a priority transfer target for a rival Premier League club.

The beauty of the current Chelsea squad this season is that they’ve got a minimum of two quality options per position, including in the defence.

While the Blues attack has been scoring goals for fun, Enzo Maresca’s side are still trying to find a defensive resilience. They’ve conceded 12 goals in 11 games across all competitions so far this season.

In terms of the defence, Paul Merson has urged Chelsea to stop the obsession with playing out from the back. We doubt that the head coach will abandon his football philosophy, though.

Manchester United rate their chances of signing Ben Chilwell

According to TEAMtalk, Premier League giants Manchester United consider Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell a ‘top target’ for the left-back position ahead of the January transfer window.

It is explained that the 27-year-old full-back is expected to leave Stamford Bridge as early as January after Maresca tried and failed to move him on in the summer.

The report says that Man United have a ‘concrete interest’ in Chilwell after links in the summer, so they’re preparing a ‘firm effort’ for his signature in the New Year. Also, they believe they have a ‘good chance’ of bringing the English left-back to Old Trafford because he’s not in Chelsea’s plans.

TEAMtalk’s report further adds that both Atletico Madrid and Juventus have made early enquiries for Chilwell.

Ben Chilwell a good fit for Manchester United

Chilwell, who earns £200,000-a-week (Spotrac), needs a move in January to get back to playing regular football.

So far, the attack-minded full-back has only made one appearance this season because he’s behind both Marc Cucurella and Renato Veiga in the left-back pecking order.

If he were to join Man United, we think he could thrive at Old Trafford. The Red Devils can’t seem to keep Luke Shaw fit, so they’re crying out for another out-and-out left-back in their squad.

Chilwell has prove in the past he’s a quality defender that can perform on the highest level, so a change of scenery at this stage of his career should be great for all parties.
