Enzo Maresca gives hilarious answer when discussing who’s going to defend in Chelsea’s new attacking team

Enzo Maresca has not been at Chelsea for long, but he has already transformed the Blues into quite an attacking team.

Chelsea just beat Barrow 5-0 in the third round of the Carabao Cup, which comes after their 3-0 win away at West Ham United.

Last month, Enzo Maresca‘s side also managed to beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 6-2 away from home.

Noni Madueke scored a hat-trick that day, while it was Christopher Nkunku’s turn to do the same thing on Tuesday. Nkunku has now warned Chelsea not to get complacent.

Enzo Maresca says he cannot play every Chelsea attacker

Chelsea are attacking so well at the moment thanks to the likes of Nkunku and Madueke.

Cole Palmer did not even play against Barrow and the Blues still managed to put five past them.

Maresca was asked about utilising all of his attacking talent and told reporters: “The problem is the balance of defensive balance because we can think to play with Nicolas [Jackson], Christo, Joao [Felix], Cole Palmer, Noni, fantastic. But then who is defending? Me and you, we go and we need to run back!”

As well as Palmer, Jackson was also rested ahead of the Brighton & Hove Albion fixture on Saturday. However, after Nkunku’s hat-trick, Maresca may have to leave the 23-year-old out and continue with the Frenchman.

Maresca really appreciated Nkunku’s work off the ball during the Barrow victory.

Predicting Chelsea’s attack for Brighton

Maresca is spoilt for choice. Not only does he have names on paper, but the names he has are all performing at the moment — or at least most of them anyway.

Palmer will definitely start; he is Chelsea’s star man. Jadon Sancho has also done enough in his first two appearances as a Chelsea player to retain his spot on the left.

What Maresca does after that is anyone’s guess. He may go with Neto on the opposite flank to Sancho and then Nkunku up front following his three goals on Tuesday.

Maresca wants to use Neto on the right this season, but the Portuguese and most of Chelsea’s other attackers are quite versatile, so it will be very interesting to see what the team’s forward line looks like this Saturday.
