Premier League club enquires about signing ‘unbelievable’ Chelsea player in January

Chelsea’s first-team player has just received some early transfer interest ahead of the January window.

There’s still seven weeks to go until the transfer window becomes active, but how busy will Chelsea be in the New Year?

In terms of incomings, the Blues have been extremely active in recent windows adding to their squad. Interestingly, Chelsea want to sign a defender who can cover both centre-half and right-back.

However, there’s some individuals in Enzo Maresca’s deep squad that are struggling for minutes in the first half of the season, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to perhaps see some faces leave in search of more regular first-team action.

Ipswich Town enquire about Chelsea player Carney Chukwuemeka

Journalist Simon Phillips has claimed via Substack on Tuesday that he’s heard from sources Ipswich Town are showing a keen interest in signing Chelsea’s Carney Chukwuemeka.

It is explained that the Premier League side have already made an initial enquiry to find out about the 21-year-old’s availability for January. Apparently, there’s been interest from AC Milan and Barcelona as well.

Phillips adds that Chukwuemeka is prepared to listen to approaches because he wants to play more football. Unfortunately, he’s found it very difficult to get minutes under Maresca at Chelsea this season. It is understood that the player’s preference is stay in England, ideally in London.

In addition, Chelsea will sell the English playmaker for the right price, or even loan him out in January ahead of a summer move. For now, sources are unsure on the nature of Ipswich’s enquiry.

Chelsea do value their “unbelievable” player Chukwuemeka very highly, but the newest claims above suggest he’ll be allowed to leave Stamford Bridge.

Carney Chukwuemeka on the fringes this season

Chukwuemeka has been impressing in Chelsea’s training sessions. However, it’s not been enough to get him much of a look-in so far under Maresca during this campaign.

The young attacking midfielder definitely has a special talent, something he’s shown in glimpses since he joined the Blues from Aston Villa in 2022. It’s hard for him to get into the team when he’s vying against some top-class teammates, though.

Here is a look at Chukwuemeka’s record so far this term:

Remarkably, Chukwuemeka hasn’t been involved in a single matchday squad in the Premier League, so it’s pretty clear how far down the pecking order he is.
