What sources are saying about Carney Chukwuemeka’s performance in training at Chelsea

Carney Chukwuemeka has been firmly on the periphery at Chelsea this season, with Enzo Maresca overlooking him so far.

Carney Chukwuemeka only got his first minutes of the campaign against Barrow in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday and did not even start the game.

He was desperate to come on, with Chukwuemeka constantly looking towards the Chelsea bench while warming up.

Having made just one matchday squad so far this season, then, some may wonder if he is doing something in training that Maresca does not like. However, that seems to be far from the case.

Carney Chukwuemeka doing well in training

From what journalist Simon Phillips has heard, there are no issues with Chukwuemeka in training. According to his sources at Cobham, the midfielder is actually really good in sessions.

On his Substack, he wrote: “All I have heard from Cobham sources is how good Chukwuemeka is in training, how hard he works, and what a great attitude he has.”

Chukwuemeka’s game time is obviously being limited because of all of the other options Maresca currently has.

However, the former Aston Villa youngster will be disappointed that he is not even making the bench. In one Premier League game this season, Chelsea fans fumed after Cesare Casadei was included in the matchday squad instead of Chukwuemeka.

Carney Chukwuemeka could get another opportunity in the Carabao Cup

Chelsea have avoided a top six side in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup after being drawn against Newcastle United/AFC Wimbledon.

It means Maresca is likely to rotate heavily again, which could be good news for Chukwuemeka, who has been described as a “fantastic talent” in the past by Steven Gerrard (via Express & Star).

Of course, Newcastle will not be an easy game, especially with the fourth round being played at St James’ Park if the Magpies manage to overcome AFC Wimbledon next week.

But it would be a surprise if Chukwuemeka did not get a run out against them or Johnnie Jackson’s side.

That will not be enough to satisfy Chukwuemeka, though, who may look for a move in January if he continues to be snubbed by Maresca.

It has already been claimed that AC Milan could swoop for Chukwuemeka after trying to sign him in the last transfer window.
