Chelsea could have a good opportunity to sign a player from one of their Premier League rivals this summer.

The Blues recently confirmed the signing of Tosin Adarabioyo from Fulham and remain in the transfer market.

It has been claimed that Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran is a player who Chelsea are now targeting and that the striker wants a move to west London.

Duran scored five goals in 23 Premier League appearances last season.

The Colombian, though, does not appear to be the only No.9 who Chelsea are currently looking at.

Chelsea’s rivals no longer confident of keeping hold of star player

Playing second fiddle to Ollie Watkins, Duran was not able to make too much of an impact in the 2023/24 Premier League campaign.

The same cannot be said about Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke, though, who scored 19 goals in 38 appearances.

According to journalist Dean Jones, the Cherries are now starting to lose confidence over keeping hold of him this summer.

He posted on X: “Bournemouth had been confident they would hold onto Dom Solanke into next season but that feeling has begun to wane in the past few days.”

Chelsea are one club who have been linked with Solanke, with another journalist, Simon Phillips, claiming that they have seriously considered making a move for their former player.

As per The Athletic, Solanke has a £65m release clause in his contract that certain clubs can activate.

Who should Chelsea sign, Dominic Solanke or Jhon Duran?

If Duran is going to cost £40m, which is his reported price tag, then Chelsea might as well go that extra mile and just trigger Solanke’s release clause if they are able to.

£40m for a forward who made just three starts in the Premier League last season and only managed to score five goals is ridiculous.

Solanke’s price tag is also quite excessive, but at least the former Liverpool man has now proven that he can do it in the English top flight. And at 26 years of age, he is about to enter his peak.
