Crystal Palace are now being linked with a move to sign a Chelsea first-team player during this summer transfer window.

As a result of so many new signings arriving at Chelsea in the last month, it makes sense that there’s a mass exodus to match.

The Blues have started to grant several of their youngsters loan moves, which has included Alfie Gilchrist’s temporary switch to Sheffield United this week.

Meanwhile, Conor Gallagher’s reported move to Atletico Madrid, which just needs official confirmation, is the most high-profile sale at Chelsea so far in the window. It’s been claimed by Mundo Deportivo that Gallagher’s already trained with some new teammates at Atletico.

Crystal Palace want Carney Chukwuemeka

According to The Sun in its print edition (Page 57, Sunday 11 August), Crystal Palace are ‘willing to spend big’ to sign Chelsea’s Carney Chukwuemeka.

It is explained that the 20-year-old Blues midfielder may be squeezed out of the first-team picture at Stamford Bridge following the arrival of Enzo Maresca as the new head coach.

The report says Chukwuemeka wants to play regular first-team football and Palace are waiting for the nod to make an opening bid.

Apparently, Oliver Glasner’s side could cough up over £20m for the Chelsea attacking midfielder, who’s someone that fits their transfer policy of a youngster with potential to develop.

There’s been no offer put on the table yet from Palace for Chukwuemeka, but this is a deal that could make sense if his pathway is blocked in West London.

Should Chelsea keep Carney Chukwuemeka?

Based on what’s happened so far in pre-season, Chukwuemeka is down Chelsea’s midfield pecking order since the change of management.

Chukwuemeka’s pre-season tour this summer went much worse than last year, so it’s not the greatest surprise that he’s linked with a potential transfer exit.

The Englishman definitely has the individual quality to shine in Chelsea’s first team. Unfortunately, he’s starting from scratch after his 2023/24 campaign was largely decimated by injury.

Speaking via Chelsea’s official website back in October 2022, Graham Potter hailed Chukwuemeka as someone with “huge potential”. Let’s see whether the young talent gets the chance to show that at Stamford Bridge or Selhurst Park next season.
