'Pushing': 21-year-old has now agreed to join Chelsea on a six-year contract, Blues really want him – Romano
Fabrizio Romano has claimed on his YouTube channel that Wesley Fofana is pushing hard for a move to Chelsea.
The 21-year-old has been made the club’s primary target to strengthen their backline before the window closes, with them now making three separate bids to sign him from Leicester City.
Their latest effort was again turned down immediately by the Foxes, with the scenario likely to drag to the very end of the transfer window.
It has been widely reported that Fofana is keen on the move to West London, with his social media activity only furthering speculation that he could now leave.
Romano has claimed that the Blues are likely to try again for the defender, following reaching an agreement on personal terms.
Fofana still pushing for Chelsea
He said: “Chelsea are still insisting. The player is pushing, Fofana wants Chelsea, he has an agreement on a six-year deal, so it’s up to Chelsea now to decide when they want to try with a new bid, but the feeling internally at the club is that they will try again for Wesley Fofana. He is the top target for Chelsea.”
The deal would be the final piece of Tuchel’s defensive puzzle this summer, as he looked to rebuild following the departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.
Despite keeping hold of Cesar Azpilicueta when he looked destined to leave the club this summer, it is still claimed that the manager wants one more centre back at the club, potentially to free up Reece James.
The 22-year-old has been utilised as more of a centre-back in the last couple of weeks, with his performance up against Heung-Min Son in particular backing up Tuchel’s decision to play him there.
However, you do lose the attacking output he provides when not out wide, with him likely to be allowed to push on if Fofana is brought in.
