Fabrizio Romano has claimed on Twitter that Brighton are stepping up their efforts to sign Chelsea’s Billy Gilmour this summer.
The Scotland international was spotted back in Chelsea training earlier this week as the Blues face a potential injury crisis in midfield ahead of tonight’s game against Southampton.
N’golo Kante is ruled out, while Mateo Kovacic is still struggling to shake off the injury which has plagued his start to the season. Adding this to Conor Gallagher’s suspension, the options are beginning to run low.

This is potentially behind Gilmour’s return to training, which has coincided with him being handed a shirt number for the current season when he wasn’t originally included in Thomas Tuchel’s plans.
This brought about some Premier League interest in signing the Scotland international, with Everton seemingly front of the queue for his signature.
Brighton pushing for Gilmour
However, Romano has claimed it is Brighton who are pushing the hardest in the late stages of the window, with them open to either a permanent or a loan move.
He tweeted: “Brighton are pushing to sign Billy Gilmour from Chelsea as negotiations will continue today. It could be a loan move, final decision up to Thomas Tuchel.”

With him seemingly out of the picture for long periods of pre-season at the club, it could certainly be plausible that he is playing his football away from Stamford Bridge this season.
The Blues have already engaged in some business with Graham Potter’s side this season, with them hijacking Manchester City’s attempts to sign Marc Cucurella, who has impressed since joining the club.
In return, the seaside club loaned in Levi Colwill, with Blues fans excited for him to break into the first team to show them exactly what he can do in the Premier League.
