Journalist Simon Phillips has claimed on his Substack that RB Leipzig are looking to bring in Benjamin Sesko in January in order to give the green light to Christopher Nkunku joining Chelsea.

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the deal between the Bundesliga side and the Blues has been completed, with the transfer set to be facilitated for after the season.

However, there may be an appetite for the club to get a deal done earlier however, with them going through a lot of struggles in attacking areas so far this season.

Their lack of goals is not a new trait at Stamford Bridge, however one fans may have hoped would have been addressed given the signings of Raheem Sterling and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

They will also be without one of their first team strikers for the remainder of the campaign.

Nkunku could move in January

Armando Broja was stretchered off against Aston Villa in a friendly a week ago, and the diagnosis has since ruled him out for the rest of the season.

This may see them push to bring in Nkunku sooner, despite the injury he is currently dealing with that saw him ruled out of the World Cup.

Phillips has claimed that Leipzig bringing in Sesko from Salzburg next month would be the trigger for any early Nkunku transfer.

He said: “Sources tell him that RB Leipzig are trying to move forward their summer deal to sign Benjamin Sesko (also wanted by Chelsea in the future) forward to January, which would then free up Nkunku to join Chelsea in January.”

A deal between the Red Bull clubs is already in place for Sesko’s move at the end of the season, with the Bundesliga side beating the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United to a deal for the highly-sought after teenager.
