Real Madrid are interested in signing Reece James from Chelsea this month, but only on one condition

Real Madrid once again appear to be interested in signing Reece James from Chelsea.

Reece James has been linked to Real Madrid in the past, but his importance to this Chelsea squad and injuries always made a move unlikely.

Since then, Trent Alexander-Arnold has become the European champions’ top target for the right-back position.

However, with Liverpool not keen on doing a deal during this transfer window and Carlo Ancelotti desperately in need of another right-sided defender, it looks like Real Madrid have turned their attention back to James.

Real Madrid want Reece James on loan

Real Madrid still appear to have their heart set on landing Alexander-Arnold, but their only option may be to wait until the end of the season when his contract expires and sign him then.

As a result, according to AS, the Spanish giants are now becoming more open to bringing in another right-back this winter, with Dani Carvajal still out injured.

James is one name currently being discussed, but the same outlet claims that Real Madrid are only interested in doing a loan deal.

The 25-year-old recently returned from injury and quickly reminded everyone of what he is capable of. On Tuesday, James scored a fantastic free-kick against Bournemouth to salvage a point for Chelsea in their 2-2 draw with the Cherries.

Vinicius Junior a fan of Reece James

One Real Madrid player who would welcome James to the Santiago Bernabeu with open arms is Vinicius Junior.

Vinicius and James have done battle before, coming up against each other in the Champions League, and it seems the England international made quite the impression on the Brazil star.

In 2022, Vinicius spoke about James, saying: “I’ve played against a lot of them [English players] and the most difficult opponents were Chelsea’s James and [Kyle] Walker of Manchester City.”

While Vinicius would probably love a link up with James, it is not going to happen this month, especially if Real Madrid only want to do a loan deal. In no way are Chelsea going to benefit by allowing their captain to join another side for six months.
