Journalist Matt Law has claimed that Frank Lampard is a huge fan of Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech.

He told the London is Blue podcast that the interim manager is not too worried about the consequences of giving the Moroccan minutes for the remainder of the season.

This is despite the chance that Ziyech leaves the club at the end of the season, which it is currently expected he will do.

It has been another season where the 30-year-old has struggled to establish himself as a regular in the first team, instead seeing the majority of his appearances coming from the bench.

Even these reached a new low however under previous manager Graham Potter. It was easy to forget about Ziyech when the former Brighton man was in charge.

However, he has been seen at Stamford Bridge a lot more since Lampard took over, sometimes at the expense of young wingers Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke.

Now, Law has claimed that it’s because of the interim manager’s admiration of the player that he continues to play in the back-end of this season.

He said: “Lampard made a huge push to sign Ziyech. He famously went to one of the Tottenham vs Ajax Champions League games and decided that he was the thing for him. He’s a really big fan of Ziyech.

“At the end of the day if the manager’s a fan of the player, it’s not really Lampard’s problem what happens at the end of the season. He likes him. I think even though Ziyech I’m told can be a bit of a challenging person, I think Lampard actually likes that in him.”

With Madueke beginning to impress in recent weeks, supporters will be hoping he isn’t dropped from the starting side for Ziyech before the end of the campaign.
