Chelsea target Ivan Toney has told Premier League club Brentford that he wants to leave them in the January transfer window.

That is according to a report from TEAMalk.

They claim that Ivan Toney, 27, has told Brentford he wants to be sold in the New Year.

It is explained that the English striker has personally informed the Bees he wishes to join a new club when the next transfer window opens.

The report adds that Chelsea and Arsenal are both firmly in the race to sign the centre-forward.

Boost for Chelsea

It’s encouraging news for Mauricio Pochettino’s side that a player they’re strongly linked with has now expressed his desire to move.

The Evening Standard claimed earlier this week that Chelsea are prepared to break their own transfer policy to sign £80million-rated Toney. The Blues prioritise players aged under 25 in the transfer market, but they could make an exception for Brentford’s frontman.

We’ve been unable to watch the 27-year-old play in the first half of the season while he serves a suspension, but his performances in the Premier League last year were very impressive. He scored 20 goal in 33 top-flight games last season for Brentford.

Described as “remarkable” by Brentford manager Thomas Frank (BBC), Toney is the complete package.

Ivan Toney can fix issue

There’s signs that the football under Pochettino is coming together, but this XI is still crying out for a clinical forward.

Raheem Sterling is the top Blues scorer so far this campaign with four goals.

In our view, Toney is the type of striker that can lead the line at Stamford Bridge and put the ball in the back of the net.

We’re certainly not discrediting the potential of young Blues strikers Armando Broja and Nicolas Jackson. However, this side would really benefit from an experienced player leading from the front.

Now we’ll wait and see what kind of price Brentford actually demand as there’s mixed speculation out there.
