Ruben Loftus-Cheek is reportedly apposed to departing Chelsea before the January transfer window closes.

According to the Evening Standard, the midfielder and Conor Gallagher are both ‘reluctant’ to set sail from Stamford Bridge this month.

There have been numerous murmurs about the pair potentially heading out on loan ahead of the market shutting shop until the summer.

Gallagher has attracted interest from Newcastle United and Crystal Palace, although it appears he will be staying put for the rest of the season.

What will Chelsea do with Ruben Loftus-Cheek?

Newcastle and Palace have also apparently been attracted to the idea of landing Loftus-Cheek.

The 27-year-old is aiming to get his campaign back on track following another lengthy injury layoff.

He was forced off early in the last game before the World Cup at Saint James’ Park with a calf problem.

His recovery process covered the entire tournament in Qatar and the six matches since the competition concluded.

Graham Potter has been able to name the Chelsea academy graduate on the bench for the previous two fixtures, as he awaits the right moment to fully unleash the player.

But with Potter’s squad now bulging with new additions, the manager might consider letting go some of those on the fringes.

Through no fault of his own, Loftus-Cheek is slightly cut adrift from the first-team and may be considered slightly surplus to requirements.
