Chelsea have reportedly entered talks for Borussia Monchengladbach striker Marcus Thuram as they chase his signature this month.

Journalist Ben Jacobs claimed last week that Graham Potter’s side were working on a deal to sign the 25-year-old star, but that there was a real challenge to get it completed in January.

However, fresh reports now suggest the Blues may be in a good place to sign the Gladbach centre-forward.

Chelsea talks for Marcus Thuram

According to 90min, Chelsea have now started discussions with Thuram’s representatives about his potential switch to Stamford Bridge.

It is understood that Bundesliga side Gladbach are “keen” to sell their attacker in January, with his current deal expiring at the end of the season. For them, they would rather cash in than lose him on a free transfer in the summer.

The report says that Thuram is refusing to extend his deal with Gladbach, but he’s still exploring his next move before he makes any final decision.

In our view, Thuram could be just what Chelsea need this month.

There’s lots of speculation around Potter’s side adding more creative attackers to this squad, but many supporters will agree that a recognised centre-forward can help improve the line-up.

Thuram is a frontman with 13 goals in 17 appearances across all competitions so far this season.

He’s a quick and strong striker that can give the Blues a point of reference at the top end of the pitch, so it would be great if the club can make this deal happen. There’s reason to be optimistic given Gladbach are ready to sell him.
