Chelsea are reportedly still in ongoing talks for Benfica’s Enzo Fernandez.

According to The Times, there are conversations taking place right now between Chelsea and Benfica regarding the 21-year-old player’s future.

It is explained that the Blues are still pushing to sign the Argentine midfielder with a £106million release clause, despite Benfica’s manager claiming he’s not for sale this month.

The report says Chelsea are near to completing a deal for Atletico Madrid’s 23-year-old forward Joao Felix, who is set to join on a £9million loan deal until the end of the season.

It’s this same report that claims the Fernandez interest is still alive.

Chelsea talks ongoing for Enzo Fernandez

The Athletic say Felix has ‘verbally agreed’ to complete his loan switch to Stamford Bridge in January.

If you look at Chelsea’s current position, it’s going to take something quite remarkable in the second half of the season to achieve anything in the Premier League.

Graham Potter’s side sit 10th in the Premier League table right now miles off the pace, with a top-four finish looking a long way off unless they clean their act up fast.

Fernandez would be game-changer

If the Fernandez interest reignites again after a lot of previous speculation, Chelsea supporters may have reason to cheer.

Described as “spectacular” by Lionel Messi a few months ago, speaking via La Pagina Millonaria, Fernandez is an exceptional central midfielder that could reenergise this Blues line-up.

The hope is that Felix can add some creativity and goals in Chelsea’s attack, but they’re crying out for another midfield enforcer as well.
